DEAD-LINES: a 2-part workshop (Jun 6 & 13 from 5:30-7:30pm at Art Up Front Street’s Gallery located at 120 Front Street, Exeter, NH) . The Pre-Dead Social Club has partnered up with The Seacoast Village Project to kick off another DEAD-LINES! We’ll be putting pen to paper in the beautiful gallery at Art Up Front Street to get those creative juices flowing!

This 2-part, small group, creative writing workshop is for anyone looking to create an obituary or ode worth reading, worth remembering and worth sharing, but who might struggle to get the words down on paper. Imagine turning the traditional obit/ode on its ear by crafting a piece of prose, poetry or dialogue to communicate what mattered most about that person (or pet!) the impact they had, and the ripple effect they made. Workshop facilitator, Leslie Pasternack has a bag of tricks to grease the writing skids for all levels of writers and non-writers alike. Participants may choose to bring any character in their life to life—write your own obituary, an ode to an important person in your life who is still living (cool, right?!), or a tribute to a dearly departed pet. Start where you’re comfortable.

Participants will work with the fabulous Leslie Pasternack, an award winning playwright, writer and actress who has brought many a character to life on and off the stage and knows the hurdles we go through to communicate the essence of what makes someone or our pet(s) super important to us. She has a bag of tricks for both the non-writers and writers alike and isn’t afraid to use them. Leslie has spent two decades teaching writing and acting at the college level with another ten plus years leading various theatre workshops throughout New England.

Leslie is no stranger to tender subjects, she directed the performance and outreach series MAKE SURE IT’S ME, a play about traumatic brain injury in the military. In addition, she also mentors an incarcerated playwright through the PEN America Center’s Prison Writing Program.
